Discovering Your Values: A Key Step in Becoming a Contribution in the World

As a philosopher and student of the mind, I understand that the journey towards healing our mental health extremities will not be an easy task. There are many traumatic experiences that the black community has dealt with in the 18th & 19th centuries that we are still fighting to overcome (voter registration, racism, poverty, high-risk pregnancies, disease, etc.) today in 2023. In the grand scheme of our traumatic experiences, it’s important that we give voice to those that still suffer in silence.

What has been swept under the rug or hidden in the closets of racism and prejudiced acrimony; will be revealed and addressed on many national platforms in years to come. Part of my healing journey is the “Deep Exploration” on black suffering and the effects our past will have on the future of our survival.

Because I value healing, wholeness, supporting others, education, learning, giving, wisdom, and opportunities to contribute in meaningful ways; doesn’t negate the fact that I don’t struggle to reconcile with the past pain of my community. The past traumas, old wounds, difficult memories and mental health struggles of black patrons, in my estimation need a deeper assessment.

It’s important for me to know why some black men struggle with Pornography and why sex is something that has become more of a reproductive tool than a means for healing the body. I languished in this area for the majority of my life because I lacked the understanding of placing a value on my sexuality and that of the black women.

After watching the 1619 Project Documentary on Hulu narrated by Nikole Sheri Hannah-Jones, I am learning why it’s important to respect black women and motherhood given the frightening tales of how slave owners in the deep south used to force blacks to procreate with one another for the sake of selective breeding.

Selective breeding involves choosing parents with particular characteristics to breed together and produce offspring with more desirable characteristics. Many athletes select mates based on height in order to keep the tradition alive given their penchant for sports.

In this manner, their contributions are creating superstar athletes for the entertainment of sports fans the world over. In my estimation all athletes in the world are contributing to their own legacy and the pleasure of others in the form of “Championships”.

When we think of Lebron James donating millions of dollars to help fight poverty and homelessness to establishing a college tuition fund for underprivileged children; it was out of his value for sports that gave children hope and promise for a better future.

When I speak of becoming a contribution to the world it’s more about discovering your value proposition. It’s about using your experiences and hardships to bring about a reformation in the way we value life, which ultimately shapes the lives of those we are in relationships with.

So, how do we go about discovering our values? It begins with an exploration based on the depths of our psyche and what value proposition we can contribute to the world. In this brief narrative, I will outline a framework for how to accomplish this.

Understanding Your Mind

To start, it is important to understand the workings of our mind. Our mind is like an iceberg, with the conscious mind being the tip that we can see, and the unconscious mind being the submerged part that we cannot see. By understanding our unconscious mind, we can uncover patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that we may not be aware of, and work to heal and transform them.

Identifying Your Values

Once we have a better understanding of our mind, the next step is to identify our values. Values are the principles that guide our lives and give us a sense of purpose. By identifying our values, we can determine what is truly important to us and align our actions with our values.

Identifying Your Contribution

With a better understanding of our mind and values, we can then begin to explore how we can become a contribution to the world. This involves identifying our unique gifts, talents, and skills, and finding ways to use them to make a positive impact on the world. If you are a writer blog. If you are a singer sing. Whatever you do make sure to do it daily.

Overcoming Obstacles

As we embark on this journey of becoming a contribution, we will undoubtedly encounter obstacles and challenges. It is important to recognize that these obstacles are opportunities for growth and transformation, and to approach them with an open mind and a willingness to learn and adapt. These obstacles are the seeds to your promotion and advancement.

Practicing Self-Care

Finally, it is important to prioritize self-care as we navigate this journey. Psychological healing and becoming a contribution can be demanding, so it is important to take care of ourselves physically, emotionally, and mentally. This can include practices such as exercise, meditation, therapy, and self-reflection.

In conclusion, becoming a contribution to the world is an important aspect of psychological healing. By understanding our mind, identifying our values, and exploring our unique gifts and talents, we can make a positive impact on the world and find a sense of purpose and fulfillment in our lives. While the journey may not always be easy, it is worth the effort to become the best version of ourselves and make a positive impact on those around us.
